The Sunnah after the death of a Muslim is to hasten the funeral and burial. Delaying it without any legitimate Shariah or legal compulsion, for any purpose whatsoever, is makruh.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Make haste at a funeral; if the dead person was good, it is a good state to which you are sending him on; but if he was otherwise it is an evil of which you are ridding yourselves." [Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2186]
This hadith indicates that the burial should be hastened. Delaying the burial merely to wait for a close relative of the deceased or to see the deceased's face is against the Sunnah.

ويستحب أن يسرع في جهازه لما روي عن رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - أنه قال: عجلوا بموتاكم فإن يك خيرا قدمتموه إليه، وإن يك شرا فبعدا لأهل النار.

(قوله ويسرع في جهازه) لما رواه أبو داود «عنه - صلى الله عليه وسلم - لما عاد طلحة بن البراء وانصرف قال ما أرى طلحة إلا قد حدث فيه الموت فإذا مات فآذنوني حتى أصلي عليه وعجلوا به فإنه لا ينبغي لجيفة مسلم أن تحبس بين ظهراني أهله» والصارف عن وجوب التعجيل الاحتياط للروح الشريفة فإنه يحتمل الإغماء.
