Topic: Right to Lead the Janaza (Funeral) Prayer   (No-18032)

Q Who has the first right to lead the janaza (funeral) prayer?

a The first right to lead the janaza (funeral) prayer belongs to the Muslim leader of the time, then to his deputy, then to the Qazi, then to the Imam of the local mosque, and then to the guardian of the deceased.
Note: If the guardian is more qualified than the local Imam, the guardian has the right to lead the prayer. Also, the right of the Imam to precede the guardian is only mustahabb. Thus, if the guardian leads the prayer in the presence of the local Imam, the Imam will not have the right to repeat the janaza (funeral) prayer.
