Topic: Ruling about Beat Boxing   (No-2698)

Q Beat boxing is an art by which musical sounds are produced. It's trend is common in western countries. Is producing musical sounds like this and listening to it permitted?

aIt is clarified that Beat boxing is an art in which musical sounds are produced from mouth, nostrils and throat (without using musical instruments) and sometimes, hands, feet and other organs are also used for this purpose. These sounds are so similar to musical sounds that sometimes even the experts cannot differentiate between these sounds and real music.
It is clarified that musical sounds are prohibited (حرام) in Islam and the instruments of music (معازف) include mouth-organ, drum, and harp etc. The reason for prohibition of these instruments are the musical sounds produced by them, otherwise there is no other reason for prohibition in use of these instruments. Therefore, if these instruments are used otherwise, for e.g. a musical drum being used for storage of water or as a storage drum, then it’s use is undisputedly allowed.
Therefore, the reason for prohibition of these instruments is the sound coming out of them through which a person entertains himself. So, as per the principles of scholar (فقہاء) where this reason will be found, prohibition will also be there.
Therefore, the musical sounds produced by any means are prohibited, may it be through own organs or through Instruments. In either case, it will be declared prohibited, so much so, that Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) ﷺ has even forbidden to read Quran like songs:-
Translation:
Hazrat Huzaifa Bin Yamman (RA) narrates that Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) ﷺ said : “ Read the Quran as per the accent and sounds of Arabs and avoid reading it like sinner, non-pious or people of the book. A group will be born after me, whose people will read quran like singing and moarning, (their condition will be such) that Quran will not go down their throats (meaning, Quran will have no effect on their hearts). Thus, they and those who will be pleased with their recitation, their hearts will be caught by temptation (Fitnah) .”
It is clarified that sounds other than music, for e.g. chirping of birds, horses neigh, sound of water falling from waterfalls, sound of sea waves and sound of vehicles engines is permitted to be produced from mouth.
