There is no specific method of trimming the nails mentioned in the Sunnah or authentic Hadiths. However, some scholars have written that it is better to start by trimming the nail of the index finger on the right hand and go all the way to the little finger on the right hand, then trim the nail of the little finger on the left hand and go all the way to the thumb on the left hand, then trim the nail of the thumb on the right hand in the end .As for the feet, start from the little toe on the right foot and go all the way to the big toe, then trim the nail of the big toe on the left foot and go all the way to the little toe on the left foot (in this way you are going from right to left).
It should be noted that this method in itself is not Sunnah. The scholars who have adopted this method probably did so because it is mentioned in a Hadith that Allah prefers starting with the right side in all matters.

وفي شرح الغزاویة: روي أنه صلی اللّٰة علیه وسلم بدأ بمسبحته الیمنی إلی الخنصر، ثم بخنصر الیسری إلی الإبهام، وختم بإبهام الیمنی. و ذکر له الغزالي في الإحیاء وجهاً وجیهاً ... قلتُ: وفي المواهب اللدنیة: قال الحافظ ابن حجر: إنه یستحب کیفما احتاج إلیه، ولم یثبت في کیفیته شيء، ولا في تعیین یوم له عن النبي صلی اللّٰه علیه وسلم"
قال فی الہدایة عن الغرائب: وینبغی الابتداء بالید الیمنی والانتہاء بہا فیبدأ بسبابتہا ویختم بإبہامہا، وفی الرجل بخنصر الیمنی ویختم بخنصر الیسری اہ ونقلہ القہستانی عن المسعودیة، قولہ: ”قلت إلخ“ وکذا قال السیوطی: قد أنکر الإمام ابن دقیق العید جمیع ہذہ الأبیات وقال لا تعتبر ہیئة مخصوصة، وہذا لا أصل لہ فی الشریعة، ولا یجوز اعتقاد استحبابہ لأن الاستحباب حکم شرعی لا بد لہ من دلیل ولیس استسہال ذلک بصواب اہ
قلت: وفی المواہب اللدنیة قال الحافظ ابن حجر: إنہ یستحب کیفما احتاج إلیہ ولم یثبت فی کیفیتہ شیء ولا فی تعیین یوم لہ عن النبی - صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم
