Topic: Is it Haram to Backbite a Non-Muslim Person?   (No-8181)

I know that speaking ill of a Muslim behind their back is considered backbiting and is a major sin. If I speak ill of a non-Muslim person behind their back, is it still considered backbiting? And is it also as serious a sin as backbiting a Muslim?

Yes! Just like backbiting a Muslim is haram, backbiting a non-Muslim is also haram. However, if the non-Muslim person’s “Kufr” poses a risk of harm to Islam or Muslims, then backbiting them would not be considered haram.
