(1) During dental cleaning and filling procedures, there is a strong chance of water droplets entering the throat, and thus being swallowed. This breaks the fast. Therefore, it is better to undergo these procedures after the fast. However, if due to a severe necessity, a person undergoes these procedures, and water droplets do not enter their throat, their fast remains valid. On the other hand, if water droplets do enter their throat, their fast is deemed invalid and it becomes obligatory for them to perform qaza for that day’s fast.
(2) While fasting, if a person experiences pain in their teeth, they should avoid placing a clove in between their teeth. This is because if the particles of the clove enter the throat, their fast will be deemed invalid.
(3) Gargling while in the state of fasting is prohibited because of the risk of water going down the throat. However, if the discomfort is severe, and gargling seems like the only effective solution, then gargling is permissible. But if water enters the throat while gargling, the fast is deemed invalid, and it becomes obligatory to perform qaza for that days fast.
