Topic: Naming a Child Rahin, Raheen, Raaheen, or Raheen

(No-65761)

Q Respected Mufti Sahib, could you please explain the meanings of the names Rahin, Raheen, Raaheen, and Raheen?

aIt should be noted that the name "Rahin" (رہین) (راء with a fatha, ہاء with a kasrah, and یاء with a sukoon) means "something given as a pledge, subservient, or subordinate." The name "Raaheen" (راہین) is a word without any meaning. As for "Raaheen" (راحین) and "Raheen" (رحین), despite research, no meaning could be found for either. It is therefore better to choose a name for your children from among those of the Sahabah or the Sahabiyat, may Allah be pleased with them all, or any other name with a good meaning. Allah the Almighty knows best. Darul Ifta Al-Ikhlas, Karachi.
