Topic: Naming a Girl Hala Noor or Mishkat

(No-65872)

Q Is it permissible to name a girl Hala Noor or Mishkat?

a1) "Hala" (ہالہ) is the name of a Sahabiyat. It was the name of the sister of Ummahaat ul-Mumineen Hazrat Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her). Its meaning is: "the halo of the moon, or the ring of light surrounding a celestial body such as a star." Therefore, naming a girl Hala (Haalah) is permissible, and there is no objection to adding the word "Noor" (نور) to it. 2) The word "Mishkat" (مشکوٰۃ / مشکاۃ) is an Arabic word meaning "a niche, a place where a lamp is set, a lamp stand." Therefore, naming a girl Mishkat (Mishkaat) is permissible. Allah the Almighty knows best. Darul Ifta Al-Ikhlas, Karachi.
