Topic: Naming a Child Zul Arsh

(No-65905)

Q What is the ruling on naming a child Muhammad Zul Arsh?

a"Zul Arsh" (ذُو الْعَرْش, with a damma on ذ, a sukoon on ل, a fatha on ع, and a sukoon on ر) means "the Lord of the Throne." Since this attribute is used in the Quran exclusively for Allah the Almighty, it is not permissible to use Zul Arsh as a name. It is better to choose a name from among the names of the Prophets (peace be upon them) or the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them), or to select any other name with a good meaning. Allah the Almighty knows best. Darul Ifta Al-Ikhlas, Karachi.
