The literal meaning of Ayat (آیت) is "sign" or "symbol." On this basis, using it as a name is permissible. However, in common and technical usage, the word is understood to refer to a verse of the Holy Quran. Given this association, it is not ideal to use it as a name.
It would be better to choose a name for the girl from among the names of the Azwaj Mutahharaat and Sahabiyat (may Allah be pleased with them all), or any other name with a good meaning.
Allah the Almighty knows best.
