Topic: Ruling on Teaching Online During I'tikaaf    (No-22655)

Q A woman observing I'tikaaf, can she take an online class for students of 9th or 10th grade during I'tikaaf?

a
The essence (روح) of I'tikaaf is to completely disconnect from worldly matters and relationships, and to sit in a designated place within the mosque to isolate and devote oneself to Allah's worship, Zikr, and Fikr. A person observing I'tikaaf must avoid any activities that might distract from this purpose.
Teaching worldly subjects or engaging in other employment activities during I'tikaaf is considered makrooh. However, if the woman is unable to take leave from her job and her livelihood depends on this teaching job, then it may be permissible for her to teach, provided she strictly adheres to the requirements of 'pardah' (covering oneself) and modesty.
