Topic: Ruling on the Obligation of Qurbani for a Lender Who Has Not Been Repaid    (No-24865)

Q A person loaned out 2 lakh rupees to someone, but the borrower is now delaying repayment by requesting extension after extension. The lender has no wealth other than the 2 lakh rupees they have loaned out. Given the situation, is Qurbani obligatory for the lender?

a
If a person has given someone a loan and now has no other wealth apart from this, then if they fully believe that the borrower will be able to return at least some of the money upon request, the lender should ask the borrower to return at least the amount needed to offer Qurbani.
However, if the borrower refuses to repay the debt and the lender has no other wealth or excess possessions that reach 'Nisaab' (the minimum threshold for Qurbani to become 'wajib'), then Qurbani is not 'wajib' for them.
