It should be noted that celebrating birthdays is a custom that originated from the practices of non-Muslims and is a product of Western culture. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed Muslims to avoid imitating the distinctive customs and practices of non-Muslims. Therefore, Muslims should refrain from celebrating birthdays. Whether celebrated on a large scale or observed simply at home, the customary birthday practices—such as cutting a birthday cake and similar celebrations—should be avoided.
However, there is nothing impermissible in making duʿāʾ for a child's good health, well-being, and long life on such an occasion, expressing gratitude to Allah Almighty for His blessings, and showing happiness, provided that all of this is done within the limits prescribed by the Sharīʿah.
At the same time, such acts should not be regarded as obligatory or treated as a fixed annual custom. Therefore, if they are occasionally omitted, or if gratitude to Allah and expressions of happiness are made at different times instead of being tied to a specific date each year, this will not be considered impermissible.

مرقاة المفاتيح: (2782/7، ط: دار الفكر)
قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم» رواه أحمد وأبو داود.
(من تشبه بقوم): أي من شبه نفسه بالكفار مثلاً في اللباس وغيره، أو بالفساق أو الفجار أو بأهل التصوف والصلحاء الأبرار. (فهو منهم): أي في الإثم والخير. قال الطيبي: هذا عام في الخلق والخلق والشعار، ولما كان الشعار أظهر في التشبه ذكر في هذا الباب.
