Topic: Compensation for Fasts Missed due to Pregnancy   (No-8069)

Q My wife is pregnant and thus cannot fast. After the child’s birth, should my wife compensate for the missed fasts by giving fidyah or performing qaza?

a It is permissible for a woman to skip fasts in Ramadan only if fasting is likely to cause harm to her own life or the life of her baby. After the birth of the child, the woman must perform qaza to compensate for the missed fasts.
It is important to note that fasts in Ramadan cannot be skipped unless fasting poses a genuine risk to the woman’s life or the life of the baby.
