Topic: Compensation for Not Performing Qurbani during the Specified Days   (No-8624)

Q For many years, our father used to sacrifice one share every year. Neither he nor our mother were aware that qurbani was also obligatory for our mother. They learned about it a few years ago, and since then our mother has also started performing qurbani.
Are the years in which Qurbani was not performed due to ignorance forgiven? Or will they have to perform qaza for the missed Qurbanis? Is there some sort of Kaffarah? Perhaps they need to donate an amount that would typically be spent on qurbani to a poor person? Or is there any other way? Please guide us.

aIf the days of Qurbani have passed and a person who possesses Nisab (the minimum amount of wealth) has not performed qurbani, then unlike other Ibadaat such as prayers and fasts, there is no qaza for qurbani.
With that said, it is necessary for the person who did not perform qurbani to give away either a medium-sized goat or sheep, or cash equivalent to its price, as Sadaqah. Some scholars also consider it sufficient to give away an amount of money equal to the price of one share of qurbani as Sadaqah.
