The Fazeelat (virtue) of the Night of Forgiveness (15th night of Sha’ban) has been narrated in numerous ahadith. However, no specific method or type of worship has been prescribed by the Shariah for this night.
Instead, each person should perform nafil prayers, recite the Quran, and make zikr and dua as much as they can, according to their own convenience. They should also try to stay awake for the night, but not to the extent that they miss the Fajr prayer in congregation.
It has been narrated in a hadith:
“He who performs the Isha prayer in congregation, it is as if he has stood (in prayer) for half of the night. And he who performs the Fajr prayer in congregation (too), it is as if he has stood (in prayer) for the entire night.” (صحیح مسلم ،حدیث نمبر : 1491)
