The method of using the miswak as described by the respected Fuqaha (scholars) is as follows:
1. Hold the miswak in your right hand: Grasp the miswak with your right hand in a way that your little finger is placed under the miswak and the other three fingers are placed on it’s stalk, while your thumb should be placed on the miswak’s tip.
2. Brush the upper teeth: Start by brushing the upper teeth on the right side three times. Then, brush the upper teeth on the left side three times
3. Brush the lower teeth: Next, brush the lower teeth on the right side three times. Then, brush the lower teeth on the left side three times
4. Clean the tongue and throat: It is also sunnah to clean the tongue and throat with the miswak
