Topic: Ruling on Spitting in the Direction of the Qibla and Sitting in the Toilet in the Direction of the Qibla    (No-16982)

Q 1)Is it appropriate to spit in the direction of the Qiblah while performing wudu?
2)Is it permissible to use a toilet that is built in almost the same direction as the Qiblah?

a1)Spitting in the direction of the Qiblah is disrespectful. If a person is sitting facing the Qiblah during wudu, they should spit down towards the ground, as spitting towards the ground is not disliked even if the person is facing the Qiblah. This is taken from a hadith which states that if a person feels the need to spit during prayers, they should spit down towards the ground between their feet. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith no. 417)
2)Facing the Qiblah or turning one's back towards it while relieving oneself in the toilet is "makrooh tahreemi". However, there is some latitude in this matter if the toilet is built in such a way that it faces the Qiblah, but the person using it sits at an angle so that neither their back nor their chest faces the Qiblah.
