Topic: Sending Explicit Photographs to One's Husband After Nikah

(No-62576)

Q Assalamualaikum Sheikh
My husband and I have been nikahfied since a year but we haven't started living together yet.
He lives abroad and often asks me to send certain kinds of pics to him.
Sheikh am I sinful if I don't send him such pics?, is it similar to denying physical intimacy?
Or am I generally not allowed to send or click such type of pictures?

aIslam treats ‘Haya’ (modesty) as an essential part of faith. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Every religion has a defining quality, and the defining quality of Islam is Haya (modesty)." (Muwatta Malik, Hadith: 950)
Explicit photographs and videos go against Haya and are a form of indecency. Allah has forbidden indecency in every form, whether it is open or hidden, whether it involves one person or is spread through society. Regarding those who spread indecency, the Qur'an says: "Surely, those who like that lewdness spreads among the believers, for them there is painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter." (Surah An-Nur, Verse: 19)
Therefore, even after the nikkah has taken place, a husband has no right to ask his wife for photographs that reveal her satr or those parts of the body which Shariah requires be kept hidden from others. Taking such photographs is not permissible and goes against Haya.
There are other concerns too. When a husband is away from his wife, viewing such images increases desire and carries the risk of falling into sin. These photographs can also be leaked, which could cause long term embarassment. For these reasons they should be avoided altogether.
A wife who refuses to send such photographs commits no sin. Her refusal is not a denial of her husband's marital rights, nor does it fall under refusing intimacy.
