Topic:
Does Taking Your Father's Government Job Cancel Your Inheritance?
(No-62594)
Assalamu Alaikum, My father passed away while he was serving in a government job. At that time, according to the applicable government rules, one of his children was eligible to obtain a government job on account of his death.
Since I was the eldest son, I accepted that government job with the consent of all family members. At that time, two of my siblings were minors, while one was an adult. My mother also consented to my accepting the job.
At that time, it was understood that I was obtaining the government job as a child of the deceased employee. Several years have now passed, and the other properties and assets of the family have already been distributed among the heirs. One plot remains, which is also to be distributed among the heirs.
My question is: Does obtaining the government job due to my father's death have any effect on my Shariah-defined right of inheritance in my father's property? Since I was the eldest son and obtained the government job with the consent of my mother and siblings, am I still entitled to my prescribed share of the remaining plot according to the Islamic law of inheritance?
Please guide me in light of Shariah and the Islamic law of inheritance, and clarify whether accepting the government job can be considered a substitute for my share of inheritance or as relinquishing my right to my share of inheritance. JazakAllahu Khairan.

The moment a person passes away, every heir's share in their estate is fixed. Your share in your father's estate was therefore settled the day he died.
The government job you were given in his place is not part of that estate, and it does not count as your share of the inheritance. The two are unrelated.
Since you are his shariah heir, you remain fully entitled to a share of the plot your father left behind. Taking the job, even with your family's agreement, does not take away that Shariah right.
